English Nationals - Watergate

Latest update

Max got through to the semis, Harry came 3rd in the under 14s and Sophie came 5th - Toby surfed superbly but got knocked out of the mens. Word on the street, some very dodgy judging going down. How do we know? The results of one of the heats was handed in with ten minutes left to go during the heat!!! What's that about?! You gotta take the rough with the smooth. We saw it last year, that the named surfers were getting the benefit of the doubt and even if they had a bad heat were going through. Of course the sponsors want to see the big boys win the prizes. Quite a few of our team have become known and maybe that will help us this year. I think what probably doesn't help is that Kelly is going to all the events abroad with Toby and Harry as their coach - and that kind of puts the nose out of joint of the Brit team coaches. Do we care - of course not!

Some great results coming through and a few disappointments. Megs got knocked out early, a surprise considering she's just come back from winning the Welsh Rip Curl Grom search. Apparently she had a good second round, but just didn't get a score. It happens - I've spoken to her and she's fired up for next week. You just gotta learn from the lows. Gabi also went out early - another surprise.

Harvey and Toby are advancing through the u16's. Toby just went out of the mens division - word is he's surfing really, really well. Harry T and Sophie are through to their finals.

In the under 12s we had some great performances from Max and Liam.

Tomorrow is the big day for all the finals. I'll keep you posted.
